<BAEKHYUN - City Lights>
1. UN Village
2. Stay Up (Feat. Beenzino)
3. Betcha
4. Ice Queen
5. Diamond
6. Psycho (Bonus Track)
<BAEKHYUN - City Lights>
1. UN Village
-It's a song with a rhythmic groove. The story flows itself. Don't need to concentrate on it consciously. It's enough being drunken on the voice, feeling the mood and enjoying the rhythm. But vocal being honest and zealous in this kind of style looks a little bit awkward. In recent records, EXO has mainly worn languor and deepness. In this song, it seems to emphasize languor to give both familiarity and freshness and make concentration on personal BaekHyun. BaekHyun as an eight years career artist has done well in understanding and leading the song. Both interpretation and expression are good enough.
2. Stay Up (Feat. Beenzino)
-In opposing to the previous song, it seems he stands on the extension of BaekHyun of EXO. It's so bad in interpretation and expression. It's a thought that is absolutely opposed to the previous song. It's amazing that I can get these antithetic impressions from the first and second track in an album.
The vocal has not expressed well the fascinating charm of lyrics and narratives. If he sang more relaxed, it would be better. It's too rough now. BaekHyun's vocal which gives distinction to the group sound of EXO has continued in this song. I think it is the reason for a lack of detail.
3. Betcha
-The chorus becomes familiar soon. It's good to listen because of being dandy and fresh. But every single sound is quite distinct itself so it seems a little bit sharp and unordered. Though I don't know BaekHyun well, so far as I know it's the song the most suitable to his image; playful but thoughtful and kind.
4. Ice Queen
-Though the mood and lyrics are sweet, it's messy in beat. It should have been moderate in beat so BaekHyun's vocal can get the spotlight. If a song has importance on message like this song, it's better to have an easy beat and sound. It's even worse in sound quality; Too rough in vocal texture.
5. Diamond
-BaekHyun is absolutely better in the expression on the song which is speedy and dynamic. He has a captivating voice so he makes the great synergy with dynamic songs in which he might reveal his voice clearly. Especially in this song, the beat is constructed compactly with necessary sounds so both the vocal and the mood have been kept well.
6. Psycho (Bonus Track)
-The mood has been changed in the last of the album; from real to unreal. It's like falling in a dream. It's like being more matured and expanded. The chorus is familiar to sing along and easy to the ear. It makes expectation to next album. It's a kind of song which expands the ability and musical field of BackHyun.
