<Red Velvet - Summer Magic>
1. Power Up
-It's obvious being for summer. The first chorus is too short. It's not enough to feel something. Definitely, it's more stable at the second chorus which is repeated twice. From verse to chorus is the same in instrumental structure and tone. So the refreshment or explosiveness doesn't be felt. I think it's easy to sing along at chorus part(Go go airplane...) not hook part(Banana...). This is why I feel less energy in this song; less strength in hook than the chorus.
2. With You (한 여름의 크리스마스)
-It's like putting summer on the carol like an accessory. The melody is warm and bright like a carol but the sound is a little bit rough and sharp. It's bad that the narrative is boring. The surface is pretty good but there is no depth. The vocal is dry overall. It also seems that the pitch is a little bit high to RV members.
3. Mr. E
-It has a narrational verse that SM often use and melodic chorus. The chorus has a nice hook. It's more effective because of playing a melodic part after non-melodic verse. It seems for narratives not to be collected in one place. It's because it seems to have a complex structure. And it' s hard to find the similarity between parts of the verse so that it feels like a fragment.
4. Mosquito
-It's like deja vu. It's possible to come up to f(x). Using short-chorus that repeat two times more and long-chorus which is melodic, it took both familiarity and narrative. It's a good idea.
5. Hit That Drum
-There is no room for loosening. It's a repeating of a messy situation using synthesizers. The sound perfectly fits psychological narratives. The hook is even the best. It's easy to sing along and be memorized. It's the bad point that the sound is too strong that the vocal has been covered somewhat. The vocal is a little bit rough. It's not bad matching with other sounds. It's a pretty good collaboration because RV members have the ability to handle the energy.
6. Blue Lemonade
-It's like closing the album keeping excited. Somehow it's even like an opening track. It has energy and high tension as much. Instead, the narrative doesn't go into so deep so that it's easy to listen in summer with a light heart.
