<EXO-SC - What a life>
1. What a life
(Feat. Gaeko)
<EXO-SC - What a life>
(*Special notice : It's an album with no English subtitle for Korean-title songs. It's rare in recent SM albums.)
1. What a life
-I felt some awkwardness of the singing of Sehun in places. His rap was neat and cool, but in singing, he seemed not to be melted into the song well. To talk about the song itself, it's suited for summer in general. It is not because it has expressed summer but it's not sticky and stands tidy. It's an exact song to get into the rhythm gently. Though I am not sure that it is because of the seasonal influence or, personal preference of Sehun and Chanyeol, this relaxed style looks good and fresh.
(Just us 2) (Feat. Gaeko)
-It's a song that hugs tenderly. It's like a beach on a summer night which is hot but cozy and bearing memories. It's like traveling with good friends in which there's no worrying, sorrow, and trouble. It's so happy that might cry. The arrangement using Strings and background vocal made this kind of tenderness well. Especially at the second pre-chorus on which vocal layering was, the expression reached its climax. There even be moderate energy so no sagging.
(Closer to you)
-Though the lyrics are about tempting and a little bit unctuous, the sound and vocal expression are just plain. Especially, Chanyeol's vocal seems too honest that feels awkward. The tempo seems fast also. There is no room for emotional moving. It might have been better to be a little bit slow down. Because in these kinds of emotions, a little slice of breath or merely gentle touch causes heart-attack...
4. 선 (Borderline)
-The drumbeat is a special one. It seems unrhythmic but it's not and exists meaningfully as a sound in the sound-space. Naturally, the concentration of the song gets high. Not only it stresses narratives but it also follows the conventional form; Verse-Chorus-Bridge. It's implied naturally without being obvious so it seems to be neat and ordered in music as well as narratives are delivered well. Sehun and Chanyeol have no lack in handling the song and have filled it out with sufficient presence.
(Roller Coaster)
-There is no special impression on singing or rap. It even felt not to be immersed in music. And the sound is the style that is common nowadays. It's typical overall. Meanwhile, the shouting in the hook part could be the point of the song. Being familiar and easy to sing along is merit.
(Daydreamin')
-Still attached. It's the key for figuring the song. It passes through all the beat, sound and vocal. Especially, the synthesizer which sounds like being pressed tightly shows all emotion of the song at the beginning. It's impressing that vocals have been located quite in front at the hook part. At that part, it seems to express its title; daydreamin'. Or stressing the roughness to give an impression that it's realistic.
